5 Ways to Repurpose your content to connect to your audience

Repurposing content is going to be your secret tool to standing out, connecting with your people, and scratching that creative itch!

In listening to episode 15 of the Side Hustlers Perspective podcast Allan Peters and Scotty Russell talk about how you can make so many amazing things from one idea/ design of your work.

We think that no one wants to see old work but in reality, they do! You have so much. Allan peters dive into how he takes the multitude of work he has and breaks it down into easy to follow repurposed content

AND YES PEOPLE LOVE TO SEE IT AGAIN! I’m telling you if a pro like Allan can post the same work 405 times in one month you can too!

How Many times do you sit there and ask “Idk what to post '' You have nothing new done and you really don't want to scramble to put something out there that you aren't comfortable making?

We have all been there!

I'm here to tell you that you have so much content already in your toolbox you just need to make some slight adjustments to make a brand new piece that speaks to the art, who you are, and what you have to say.

HERE ARE 5 EASY WAYS TO REPURPOSE YOUR CONTENT

1. Same Shit different Style

One simple way to create something new from something you have already made is to turn one of your pieces and make it in a different style. Here are some ideas to get you going.

  1. Make a neon sign from your design

  2. Make your realistic art into an abstract piece

  3. Cartoonize your piece

  4. Make a mascot from your badge design

  5. Play with gradients inside solid colors

  6. Play with new colors

  7. Use a new lettering style on the same quote

2. Mock it Up baby

How many times have you made an incredible illustration or design and thought “this would make a great skateboard” and then you did nothing about it?

Well now we have the power of photoshop and that means all your designs can live and play as other things in the world.

Why Mockups

Mockups are a great way to show the world and potential clients that your illustrations can live on their products, walls, and their brand. You can add so much value to your visual style story and your ideas.

There is a multitude of free mockups out there! Usually, I can google ‘Mural Mockup Free’ and you can find lots of great ideas!

3. Old becomes New

Update your old art! You are growing, baby, so show off those new skills in your old art.

Updating an old piece with your new skills shows off to your audience how much time you have taken to make yourself a better artist. It allows you to keep showing yourself that you are definitely becoming better and better and can serve as a time capsule for your work

We all grow as artists and designers so why not take something that is buried in our Instagram feed and make it new!

4. Add, Subtract, Multiply, Divide,

Add

Add something creative to an existing piece. Make something simple and more complex. Add more to an existing piece.

Subtract

Try making something minimal and very complex. It's a great exercise to condense a piece down to its bare bones.

Multiply

Make a pattern out of your work! Patterns are great ways to show prospective clients that you can make multiple assets from one idea.

Divide

Break down one of your pieces and explain their parts. Turn back the dial and show your audience what these pieces mean!

5. Make a Video

In the age of Instagram reels and Tiktok, it can be really fun to create video content of your work. This can come in many different ways.

  1. Get a couple of clips of you drawing with a big reveal at the end. Set it to some music that aligns with your vibe/brand

  2. Make a piece and then erase a doodle or the sketch over the top to reveal the finished piece

  3. Same as number one but tell the story of your piece. Why did you make this? Where were you when you did this? What was life like when you made this?

  4. 4 Takes - Sketch - Color - Highlights - Shadows - finished.
